PERSONEN

[293] From the 1919 Venango County, PA 'Her Pioneers and People, Vol.2"

[294] Archibald Davidson Bonner was born Feb. 3, 1814 in Venango County,
where he spent all his life. About 1849, he obtained the farm where his
son William Harvey Bonner now lives, a tract on one hundred acres in
Irwin Township lying one mile east of the Pittsburgh Road, and fourteen
miles south of Franklin. But little of the land was cleared when it came
into his possession, and it was greatly improved under his ownership,
both agriculturally and with good buildings. The barn was build in 1866,
the house in 1869, and he kept the property in excellent condition.
Archibald took a keen interest in local affairs, expecially in the
welfare of the Pleasant View M. E. Church, whose house of worship was a
mile and a half from his home. He held membership in that congregation
from 1846, and was ever ready to give active assistance in its work.
Archibald died July 4, 1881, in his carriage, while returning from a
picnic. He was married in 1844 to Susanna Hovis, daughter of William Hovis,
eldest son of John Hovis, and at that time 19 years old.
She survived him over a quarter of a century, passing away Oct. 3, 1908, when
82 years old.

[295] From the 1919 Venango County, PA 'Her Pioneers and People, Vol.2'

[296] William Harvey Bonner was born April 22, 1846, in the old brick house at
Bullion now occupled by Homer L DeWoody, built by the Bonners over one hundred
years ago. He was reared at his present home and educated in the neighboring
schools, meantime also getting a highly practical training under his father's
guidance. He has continued to work on the farm all his life, devoting all his
energies to agriculture as a general farmer, in which line he has been notable
successful.
Though he has not aspired to official honors of publicity of any kind he has
led an active life, has visited some interesting sections of the country, and
enjoys outdoor recreation whenever his work leaves him time for them. Like his
father, he has been a prominent member of the Pleasant View M. E. Church,
which he is serving as trustee. All his life he has been a Prohibitionist in
political principle.
When 29 years old, Mr. Bonner married Jane Foster. She died two and a half
years later, leaving one child, Carrie, now a professional nurse.
On June 11, 1885, Mr Bonner married (second) Mary Beighle, whose parents,
Joseph and Lydia Beighle, lived near the old Gilmore Mill, where Mary was
born. Two children have been born tu Mr. and Mrs. Bonner: Guy and Ethel.

[297] From the 1919 Venango County, PA 'Her Pioneer and People, Vol.2'
James Alvin Bonner, now a resident of Butler, PA, has been engaged with the
Phillips Brothers as an oil driller for 43 years, being now superintendent
of their drilling operations, often with as many as 22 strings of tools going
at once. He began his oil work in the Bullion field.
